Amélie Chemin

viola da gamba

career / background

Amélie Chemin (viola da gamba, cello) was born in France and lives in Basel. She graduated from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and received her diploma in viola da gamba in 2008 (viola da gamba studies with Paolo Pandolfo, baroque cello with Petr Skalka and fiddle with Randall Cook) and a Master's degree in early music education in 2021.

She is a permanent member of the baroque orchestra «La Cetra Barockorchester Basel» and the ensembles «Il Profondo», «La Traditora», «Il gusto Barocco» and plays with «L'Achéron», «Concerto Scirocco», «Cappella Mediterranea», «Le-je-ne-Scay-quoy», «La grande Chapelle», «Musica Fiorita», «La Scintilla Opernhaus Zürich», etc.

She plays in a duo with Paolo Pandolfo, with whom she has recorded several CDs. Amélie Chemin gives concerts as a continuo player, chamber musician or soloist throughout Europe, in the USA, Colombia, Japan, Russia, Turkey and China. She has worked with P. Pandolfo, A. Marcon, LG Alarcon, C. Mena, P. Petibon, M. Kozena, T. Koopman, W. Christie, M. Espada, etc.

Her deep interest in teaching led her to be Paolo Pandolfo's assistant in master classes and summer courses, and she has taught at conservatories in France and Switzerland. Since 2023, she is proud to participate in the MusikSpitex project. She has recorded various CDs with Deutsche Grammophon, Ricercar, Glossa, Tactus and Outhere and has performed on radio broadcasts for Radio France, BBC, SRF2, Radio Suisse Romande, Radio Svizzera Italiana, SWR and WDR.
