FAQ
Frequently asked questions about our MusikSpitex concerts
MusikSpitex is a non-profit project of Verein association at the interface between the social and health systems. The project promotes the social and cultural inclusion of people in care situations. Our professional musicians visit people in need of care at home or in nursing homes and play personal concerts. The concerts are about music, social exchange and the fight against isolation and loneliness. Our mission is to enable social and cultural participation for people who can no longer take part in public life due to health reasons. Through music we create moments of joy and well-being.
The MusicSpitex service is aimed at all people in care situations who are no longer able, due to health or physical conditions, to take part in cultural activities outside their own four walls or in activation programs in nursing homes. This includes the following care situations:
care provided by Spitex organizations
care in retirement and nursing homes
dementia care
people in private home care
care of children and young adults
palliative care and hospices
Offers from the municipality and municipalities
The MusicSpitex is a welcome change in everyday life for caregivers and those in need of care. Music can help reduce stress, release emotions and process difficult moments. Through personalized music, we revive positive memories, fight loneliness and bring about social inclusion. The MusicSpitex actively responds to the music requests of the listeners. We adapt both the instrument and the style of music to the wishes of the people. The care provided by the MusicSpitex also offers relatives and nursing staff a short break. In palliative situations, people often have special wishes or need special care. We enable music until the end and also play for people who have decided to exit.
The MusicSpitex provides one hour of individual care and entertainment and devotes itself entirely to the person in need of care during this time. This gives relatives space and time to breathe and take a short break.
During the MusikSpitex concerts, the audience is in good hands and well looked after. The nursing staff can devote themselves to other people during this time and are only called in if necessary. The concerts therefore also offer relief in the nursing sector.
MusikSpitex was launched during the Covid-19 pandemic to break the cultural isolation of those in need of care. The project was born out of the desire to promote social participation and use the power of music for good. Since our founding in 2021, we have been bringing music directly to people. Founded in Basel, we now travel all over Switzerland - and as CaMusi also in Germany.
Our offer is aimed at people of all ages in care situations who can no longer take part in cultural events due to their health situation, which means that the music Spitex also plays for children and young adults. We visit people in home care situations as well as in nursing homes or other care facilities.
Our professional musicians visit the people in need of care and play a personal concert that is tailored to the individual preferences and needs of the listeners. But MusikSpitex offers more than just a concert. We look after people before and after the concert with personal conversations and care time. Children and people who have played an instrument in the past are also allowed to explore the instrument and try it out for themselves.
A typical concert lasts around 20 minutes, but can be adapted to suit your needs and requirements. We adapt concerts to the needs of people with dementia, depending on the care situation and facility. We use the time before and after for active personal exchange. Biographical music refers to songs and sounds that are linked to personal memories and experiences – and are played for precisely this reason.
At MusikSpitex, we play exactly the music from the listeners’ lives to create a deeper connection and evoke memories.
Music has a special effect on people with dementia. It can activate deep-rooted memories and awaken emotions that words often cannot reach.
Music creates connections and can bring moments of happiness and clarity – the "old" person can suddenly be there again. This is a very beautiful moment, especially for caring relatives.
