Friederike Chylek

Career
Described as a harpsichordist with a "unique feeling for Byrd", Friederike Chylek is considered an "outstanding representative of early English keyboard music" (Early Music Review). While she has focused on the works of the Renaissance composer William Byrd and his contemporaries for over ten years, her four solo CDs with this repertoire have been released on the OehmsClassics label. The recordings were well received in the specialist press and were included in the programs of radio stations such as BBC Radio 3, BRKlassik, France Musique and Radio SRF 2 Kultur.
As a Byrd specialist whose interpretations are characterized by an “unusually simple balance between emotional expressiveness and technical clarity”
(Classical Music Daily), she has performed at festivals such as the Byrd 400 Festival in Lincoln and the Festival Alte Musik Zurich as well as in renowned concert series such as Musica Antiqua in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg.
She has performed as a continuo player in performances of oratorios such as GF Handel’s Messiah and JS Bach’s St. John Passion and accompanies as organist
and pianist regularly holds church services at the Baselland Bruderholz Cantonal Hospital, the University Hospital Basel, the Weiherweg retirement home and the irides blind home. Friederike Chylek grew up near Munich and has lived in Switzerland since studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (College of Early Music, Basel).
