Irina Morozova
dulcimer
career / background
Irina Morozova is a musician and music teacher from Belarus, born in Gomel. Since she was six years old, she has been playing the cymbal, a traditional Belarusian musical instrument. The cymbal is similar to the Appenzeller dulcimer, but differs in its larger range, different arrangement of notes and longer mallets.
Irina has been living in Switzerland with her husband and son for over a year. She grew up in a large family with four siblings. She heard the cymbal for the first time at a school concert, which immediately fascinated her and prompted her to learn the instrument, while her twin sister stuck with the piano. Today, the two perform together as a duo and recorded their first CD in 2018.
Irina graduated from the Gomel Art College in 2013 and the Minsk State Music Academy in 2018. During her studies, she won several national and international competitions and received a scholarship to support young talents. She has performed in Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Germany. Since she is interested in other instruments, she has also learned to play the ukulele and baroque flute, which enriches her repertoire and teaching methods.
